Immersive XR experiences take centre stage at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair

Visitors explored the potential of Extended Reality for engineering education and professional training through hands-on VR experiences.

Alliance4XR was present at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) on 7 September 2026, bringing Extended Reality technologies closer to engineers, professionals and visitors through an interactive dissemination event organised by the Technical Chamber of Greece / Section of Central Macedonia (TEE/TKM).

Hosted at the TEE–TMEDE Pavilion, the event gave participants the opportunity to discover the objectives of the Alliance4XR project, explore its digital learning platform and learn more about the educational materials developed within the initiative.

One of the main highlights was the opportunity to experience Virtual Reality firsthand. Using VR headsets, visitors were able to explore immersive environments and applications related to different engineering fields, including wind turbines, mechanical turbines, historic buildings and ships.

These practical demonstrations provided a clear example of how Extended Reality can support new approaches to engineering education and professional training, offering learners more interactive and experiential ways to engage with technical content.

The event also showcased Alliance4XR educational and digital resources covering areas such as photogrammetric reconstruction, cybersecurity, BIM and maritime applications, alongside other XR-based solutions developed within the project.

Around 50 participants visited the activity, gaining a closer understanding of the opportunities offered by XR technologies and the resources available through Alliance4XR.

The participation at the Thessaloniki International Fair provided another opportunity to share the project’s work with professionals and the wider public and to demonstrate, through practical experiences, how immersive technologies can contribute to the future of vocational and engineering education.
