On September 27, 2024, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), a partner of the Alliance4XR project, will participate in the Mission Possible: European Researchers’ Night in Nicosia.
Organized by the Research & Innovation Foundation (RIF), this event is part of a Europe-wide initiative aimed at engaging the public with cutting-edge research and technological innovation, supported by the European Commission’s Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions.
The European Researchers’ Night, held across more than 350 cities annually, connects the public with researchers through interactive activities, showcasing the vital role that science and technology play in solving real-world problems.
CMMI’s involvement will highlight how XR and VR technologies can be applied to the marine and maritime sectors, with visitors being able to experience immersive simulations that demonstrate the impact of these innovations on ocean research, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
Through activities like experiments, competitions, and simulations, participants will gain insights into how XR is shaping the future of maritime research, making the technology accessible to all ages. The event also fosters a culture of research and innovation, aiming to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
In addition to the immersive tech demos, CMMI will emphasize the broader applications of XR within marine environments, demonstrating how it helps address critical challenges such as climate change and marine conservation. With over 1.5 million participants globally, this event offers a valuable platform for CMMI and Alliance4XR to showcase their work and build bridges between scientific research and the public.
By participating in this event, CMMI aims to strengthen its outreach, promote sustainable maritime innovation, and further its mission of using technology to advance knowledge and practice in the marine sector. This opportunity will help build connections between research institutions, the public, and industries invested in future-facing technologies like XR.
